With 25 academic departments and more than 200 undergraduate programmes, our teaching and research are admired both nationally and internationally.
Ranked as a world top 100 university, research-led education is at the core of Durham University. It shapes and inspires our approach to the content of our programmes, the academic staff that we appoint, and how we educate our students. Our distinctive approach to research-led education ensures that our programmes are up-to-date and intellectually stimulating and our students become an integral part of academic communities of practice. It also helps explain why in 2016 Durham University was ranked 39th globally for the quality and demand of our graduates (QS World University Rankings 2016/17).
Our most recent audit by the Quality Assurance Agency (the independent body entrusted with monitoring the standards and quality in UK higher education) specifically commended on 'the University's comprehensive approach to defining and developing research-led teaching'.
Centre for Teaching and Learning

The Centre will offer a wide range of learning environments, including new classrooms that will allow students to share courses in real time with peers from institutions around the world. There will be lecture theatres, teaching rooms, education labs where new teaching and training methods will be developed, student learning zones and catering facilities.
