Waiting for a Decision

If you have not met the conditions of your offer you should check UCAS Track. If your status on UCAS Track has not changed we may still be making a decision on your application. If you have narrowly missed the conditions of your offer we may still be able to offer you a place at Durham providing you are holding us as a 'Firm choice'. For applicants who receive their results earlier than mid-August and who have narrowly missed the conditions of their offer, we may not be able to make a decision on your application until after we have received the rest of the results during the main confirmation week.

We aim to make all ‘near miss’ decisions as soon as possible once A-level results are published on Thursday 17th August 2017. Decisions will be made by Wednesday 23rd August 2017 (8pm at the latest), for applicants that have a full set of results.

Impact on College Allocation

If you have not met the exact conditions of your offer and are accepted as a ‘near-miss’ applicant, you will still be guaranteed a place in University-managed accommodation. Whilst we are unable to guarantee that your original College allocation will stay the same, we will try to allocate you to the same college where possible.

Mitigating Circumstances

If you feel something has negatively affected your exam performance, such as ill health or unexpected circumstances and it was impossible to report these to the examination board(s) you can tell us about these mitigating circumstances up until 12pm on Monday 7th August 2017. Further information can be found here.

Re-grades

We make all 'confirmation' decisions using the information available to us at the time. If your application is unsuccessful during Confirmation and you request a re-grade, you should seek a Priority Remark. If you would like to advise us that you have requested a re-mark, please complete our web-form here. If any of your grades change as a result of this, please contact us immediately at du.app@durham.ac.uk

Before 31st August 2017

If, after a re-grade, you meet the conditions of your offer, you will need to provide us with evidence by 31st August 2017 for us to consider your place. If your results are sent to us from the examination board, you must also email us at du.app@durham.ac.uk with the subject line 're-grade'; to tell us about a successful re-grade. Whilst we will endeavour to consider you if you are successful in meeting our offer following a re-grade, applicants who use the re-grade service have no guarantee that their offer will remain open. If we are unable to place you for 2017 entry we may offer a deferred place for 2018. We may not be able to offer exactly the same degree programme in cases where the original programme is discontinued from 2018 entry but we would aim to match to the closest alternative.

After 31st August 2017

If, after a re-grade you meet the conditions of your offer but you are unable to provide us with evidence by 31st August 2017, we are unable to guarantee that we will accept you. However, you should forward the evidence of your successful re-grade as soon as possible and we will consider whether we are able to offer a place for either 2017 or 2018 entry.

Please note: that availability of places for 2017 entry will depend on the number of vacancies we have available at the time you inform us of a successful re-grade. If we are unable to accept you for 2017 entry, 2018 entry will be offered as an alternative. We may not be able to offer the exact same degree programme in cases where the original programme is discontinued from 2018 entry.

UCAS Track Status 'unsuccessful'

If your status is 'unsuccessful' on UCAS Track then we are unfortunately unable to offer you a place at Durham University. If you are holding an Insurance offer elsewhere and you have met the conditions of this offer, you will become 'Firm' with your 'Insurance' Institution. If you are not holding an 'Insurance' choice elsewhere, you will become eligible for Clearing. We would like to thank you for applying to us and to wish you luck with any other applications and for your future studies.

Asking to be Released from Durham University

If you have not met the conditions of your offer and you would prefer to be released to your Insurance choice or into Clearing rather than waiting for a decision on your application from Durham, please complete our Clearing Release form.

If you are an international student, you may be eligible to apply to the Durham University International Study Centre, for more information about this please visit the Durham University International Study Centre website.
