Trevelyan College

College Welcome

Congratulations and Welcome From The Principal

I am delighted to have this opportunity of welcoming you as a new member of Trevelyan College. Congratulations on your achievements in gaining and securing a place at Durham University, and on joining the College.
Coming to University to live and study marks the entry into one of the most exciting periods of life, and the very day on which you arrive – Freshers’ Sunday – in turn marks the start of your belonging to the Trevs community. I confidently predict that the welcome you will receive on arrival from the Freshers’ Reps – the group of dedicated senior students appointed to look after you during your first days in College – will be a marvellous and memorable experience.
A key part of enjoying our scholarly community, consists in the huge range of recreational, artistic/musical, sporting, intellectual and social activities that, at Trevs, are supported in general terms by the friendliest community imaginable, and in practical and organisational terms by the students’ own representative body, the Junior Common Room (JCR).
The College Officers, the College student support staff (led by the Senior Tutor & Vice-Principal, Dr I.J. Latham), are here to give you all the support you need in making the very most out of your undergraduate life.

Prof. H.M. Evans, B.A., Ph.D., F.R.C.G.P. (hon)
Principal
Trevelyan College

Welcome from the JCR President

I’m Lydia, the Junior Common Room (JCR) President at Trevelyan.

Firstly, a huge congratulations on obtaining your place at the best College at Durham University, Trevelyan, known to us as, Trevs!

As your JCR President, I'm responsible for all matters concerning the JCR. I work with an elected exec of thirteen and several tier two and three position holders who, between us, do our best to ensure the successful running of the JCR. On a greater scale, I represent you and the views of the JCR to wider College and University levels making sure that our best interests are the first priority.

It's hard to convey how great the Trevs community is in a short passage but it's something you will experience from the minute you arrive. Along with the Exec, Freps and the whole Trevs community, we look forward to welcoming you all here in October.

Welcome from the MCR President

Hi, I’m Joe and I’ll be your President for this coming year. My role is to represent you in college and in the University. I’m here as your first point of contact if you have anything you want to discuss, and I will do my utmost to ensure you get the most out of your college experience. Please feel free to contact me with any ideas, queries or concerns you might have. As well as being in college regularly I will be holding weekly drop-ins at a variety of pubs and cafes across Durham to give those who live out a chance to come and have a chat.

Trevelyan College Induction Events

Your first week in Durham – Induction Week Events Planner

We have put together a schedule of activities which will take place from Wednesday 27th September for International students and from Sunday 1st - Friday 6th October for home undergraduates.

Use the Online Induction Planner to plan your first week’s activities by College and Department

The Online Induction Planner has been designed to let you know where you need to be and when, according to your Department and College Induction activities and events.

The Timetable has been designed so College events don’t clash with any of your academic departmental events, but offer you lots of opportunities to meet your fellow Freshers, find your way around and settle in to university life.

Please make sure you don't miss scheduled events in the Department or College

Student Registration

There are three stages to the registration process:

  1. Enrolment
  2. Module Registration
  3. Verification of Identity

Enrolment and Module Registration

After your acceptance has been processed you will receive two email messages from no.reply@durham.ac.uk which provide:

  • Your Computing and Information Services (CIS) username
  • How to derive your CIS password and guidance on how to access the system

The messages are sent 24 hours apart and are sent to the email address you provided when you applied so it’s important to let us know of any changes to this information by contacting the Student Records Team at student.records@durham.ac.uk. You may also need to monitor your spam folders to see if the messages have arrived there.

After you have received both emails you will need to:

  • Change your password
  • Log into Durham University Online – duo
  • Choose the “Banner Self Service” link in duo under “External Tools”
  • Choose Registration and Enrolment
  • Enrol with the University
  • Upload a photograph for your campus card

You will receive information from your department about registering for your programme and modules. You should follow the advice given about whether to complete registration for programmes and modules before you come to Durham or whether to wait until you arrive before making a final choice so that your department can give you further advice and information.

Key Dates

  • Enrolment and upload of photograph should be completed 12 calendar days before your start date
  • Module choices need to be made by 5 pm on Tuesday of Induction Week (information and advice on module choices will be given in departments on Monday and Tuesday of induction week).

Verification of identity

Verification of identity takes place at your college. You will need to bring either your current passport, current UK Driving Licence or current European Identity Card. If you are a UK student and you do not have any of these forms of identification you can bring your original Birth Certificate. After you have had your identity verified you can then collect your campus card.

Guidance

If you require assistance through the enrolment process, please contact College, department or further guidance is available on the Student Registry website at https://www.dur.ac.uk/student.registry/registration/ If you have a technical problem, please contact the IT Service Desk at itservicedesk@durham.ac.uk
