Trevelyan College

Music & Arts

Trevs has a brilliant reputation for music and the arts! Our building, which is lined with high quality artwork, is a wonderful showcase and backdrop for the musical, dramatic and artistic endeavours of current students. As well as a tremendous annual programme of music events - more details below - there are termly exhibitions of artwork in our Bar and the active Fine Arts Committee is run by students in tandem with SCR members. We also hold an annual Arts Competition which offers valuable prizes.

Trevstock

Music

Music provides probably our most significant hallmark. The College has a variety of areas for practising and performing, including the Bar, the Barn, the MASH Room (recording studio which is availble for students to book), B Ground practice room, the Dowrick Suite, the Sir James Knott Hall and the Dining Room (whose excellent acoustics have been used in the past by the BBC). Equipment includes high-spec electronic drum kit, pianos (including a small grand piano in the Dining Hall), amplifiers and microphones (all linked to a recording desk).

Musical societies include: Trevelyan College Musical Society/Trevs Unplugged/Trevelyan Choir/Trevelyan Orchestral Society/Trevelyan Flute Choir/ Trevelyan Strings/Trevelyan Jazz/Trevelyan A Capella Group.

Our music societies are a massive success, enjoyed by many. With performing opportunities at all levels of excellence. Trevs music welcomes anyone from players at professional standard to people who have never hit a note properly before!

The College’s annual stage Musical is always the high point of the Epiphany Term. The whole show is put together by a team of anything up to 200 Trevelyan students, welcoming people of all abilities and levels of experience. Talent is more or less taken for granted – recent productions have been at near-professional standard, and include Funny Girl, Sweet Charity, How to Succeed in Business, Anything Goes and Annie Get Your Gun. Even if you don't get directly involved, the annual Musical is one of the highlights of our busy social calendar and always a delight to watch. Trevs summer productions, including ‘Live on the Hill’ and ‘Trevstock’ (our outdoor rock festival), are normally staged after the exams and are also a huge success.

Drama

Drama societies include: The Hill College Theatre Company (mostly Trevelyan students)

In line with this the Hex Theatre Company stages a termly production: a variety of plays (Abigail's Party, for example) are performed, and they also welcome the chance to perform people's original scripts.

The annual College Musical is always the high point of the winter! The whole show is put together in a massive team of students and welcomes people of all abilities and levels of talent. In the past, we have staged a variety of shows including My Fair Lady, Guys and Dolls, Crazy for You and the Pajama Game.  Even if you don't get involved the musical is one of the highlights of our busy social calendar and always a delight to watch.  Trevs summer production for 2006  - Oklahoma (see pic)  - was staged after the exams and was a huge success!
