Master Tentmaker Ashraf Hashem goes through the process of creating a Handstitched Masterpiece. The Art is known as Khayamiya (Tentmaking), an Ancient Egyptian Art that was usually commissioned by Nobles to decorate the interior of their magnificent tents.

Cairo's Blue Mosque as Inspiration

In an interview, when asked which mosque inspires him the most, Hany El Sayed Ahmed Abd El Kader, a khayamiyya craftman, replied "The Blue Mosque here in Bab al-Wazir. The government is currently restoring it. I have borrowed some very beautiful designs from it."
