Schools and Teachers

+Do I need to write a reference for my students?

This year we have replaced the teacher reference with an online teacher verification form, which should make the process quicker for you! Schools and colleges play a key role in identifying students who have the potential to study at Durham and meet the eligibility criteria. The Supported Progression team rely very heavily on the support of teachers/advisors and we would like to thank you in advance for your support.

When students apply for Supported Progression online, there is a section where they will insert a nominated teacher’s details. From this, an automated email will be sent, with a short form for you to fill in. If you have any extra details you think we should know, please add these on the last page. However, you are not required to write a long reference in this box.

+If students are unsuccessful for this programme is there anything else that they can apply for?

We also run a Sutton Trust Summer School each year. Whilst students are only allowed to attend one Durham University programme, if they are unsuccessful for Supported Progression, they are more than welcome to apply for Sutton Trust. Applications for Sutton Trust will not be closed until 2 March.

+One of my students applied for a place on SP, when will they hear back?

We will only look at applications after the submission deadline. Whilst we endeavour to get back to applicants as soon as possible, we wish to ensure each application is considered fairly, which takes time. We hope to notify all students of the result of their application by 17 February. If they have not received an email by then please encourage them to get in touch with us at supported.progression@durham.ac.uk to confirm we have the correct contact details.
