Waiting for a Decision

If you have not met the conditions of your offer you should first check UCAS Track to see if we have still been able to accept you. If your status on UCAS Track has not changed then we may still be making a decision on your application. For example, you may have narrowly missed the conditions of your offer and we are still considering whether we can nonetheless offer you a place at Durham.

We aim to make decisions on all applicants who have not met the conditions of their offer as soon as possible after the publication of A-level results (on Thursday 15 August). If we have received a full set of results for you, you will receive a decision on your application as soon as possible and by Wednesday 21st August 2019 at the very latest.

Impact on College Allocation

If you have not met the exact conditions of your offer but we nonetheless accept you, then this may affect your allocation to a college. We will try to place you in your original choice of college where possible, but if not we will place you in another college in order to be able to assure your place in University-managed accommodation.

Re-grades

We make all 'confirmation' decisions using the information available to us at the time. If your application is unsuccessful during confirmation and you request a re-grade, you should seek a Priority Remark. If you would like to advise us that you have requested a re-mark, please complete our web-form here. If any of your grades change as a result of this, please contact us immediately by attaching evidence of the regrade, by following these instructions and using the subject title ‘Regrade’.

Before 31st August 2019

If, after a re-grade, you meet the conditions of your offer, you will need to provide us with evidence by 31st August 2019 for us to consider your place. You must tell us about your successful re-grade by following these instructions (even if your results are sent to us from the examination board). We will do our best to place you if you have subsequently met the conditions of your original offer. We cannot guarantee that a place will still be available for you, but if we are unable to place you for 2019 entry we may offer you a deferred place for 2020, either on your original programme, or if for any reason the programme is no longer available in 2020 on the closest alternative programme.

After 31st August 2019

If, after a re-grade you meet the conditions of your offer but you are unable to provide us with evidence by 31st August 2019, you should still forward the evidence of your successful re-grade as soon as possible. We will still consider whether we are able to offer a place for either 2019 or 2020 entry, although it will be much more difficult for us to place you for 2019 entry so close to the start of the academic year when college places are all likely to be filled.

Please note: that availability of places for 2019 entry will depend on the number of vacancies we have available at the time you inform us of a successful re-grade. If we are unable to accept you for 2019 entry, 2020 entry will be offered as an alternative. We may not be able to offer the exact same degree programme in cases where the original programme is discontinued from 2020 entry.

UCAS Track Status 'unsuccessful'

On UCAS Track the status 'unsuccessful' means that we are unfortunately unable to offer you a place at Durham University. If you are holding an insurance offer elsewhere and you have met the conditions of this offer and are confirmed, you will become 'firm' with your 'insurance' Institution. If you are not holding an 'insurance' choice elsewhere, you will become eligible for Clearing. We would like to thank you for applying to us and to wish you luck with any other applications and for your future studies.

Don't want to wait?

If you have not met the conditions of your offer and would prefer us to send an unsuccessful decision on your application to UCAS so you can pick up an alternative choice or enter clearing then please complete our request form.
