2020/21 entry for Centre Assessed Grades (CAG) students – update

Admission to Durham University, 2020 and 2021: A levels, IB and SQA qualifications

Congratulations on your revised grades. We are delighted to be able to welcome you to Durham University.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this difficult period. We have been working hard to resolve the accommodation issues for this year’s exceptional incoming cohort of students and we are pleased to report that we have done so.

If you have now met the conditions of your offer, you can choose to take up your place at Durham either in 2020 or 2021.

2020 entry

If you elect for 2020, you will be guaranteed a place on your course and have full membership of a College, but not necessarily the college of your original first preference.

Your accommodation will be either in College or in College-arranged accommodation in the City with other students. This may be self-catered. You will be fully part of the College community.

2021 deferred entry

If you elect for 2021, you will be guaranteed a place on your course and have full membership of the College of your original first preference and be guaranteed accommodation in College for your first year.

You will be eligible for a bursary to help with your transition to university life. The value of the bursary will depend on your household income. Further details can be found below.

Securing your place

You will be contacted by our Admissions team via email with further details of how you can now secure your offer. Please complete the steps outlined in the email by Monday 31 August 2020.

Thank you once again for your patience at this exceptional time, and we hope that you will join us in 2020.

Supporting information

College membership

A college is a community of students and staff, a wide-ranging set of activities and events, and a cluster of buildings. Sometimes the number of students exceeds the number of bedrooms, and we arrange additional accommodation in buildings not owned by the University. That has happened this year.

Students who live in College arranged accommodation will be fully involved in college life. You will have the opportunity to participate in societies, use the library and sports facilities, and enjoy formals and events.

Even after graduation you remain part of your college community. Many of our alumni return to share their skills and experiences years after they have left.

Students in College-arranged accommodation will be housed in self-catered rooms in purpose-built student accommodation contracted by the University.

More information on deferral to 2021

We are eager and prepared for students to join us in 2020 in a way that prioritises health and safety, but we understand that in the current situation, some students may prefer to join us in 2021 and we will accommodate this.

Regraded students who defer to 2021 will be guaranteed a place on their course and College accommodation and will receive a bursary to help in the transition to University life. The bursary will take the form of a discount against College accommodation charges for one year. This bursary will be available to all regraded students and offered in addition to any eligibility for the Durham Grant Scheme.
