Developing our students

Global celebrations for graduates

(3 August 2020)

This week, thousands of our students around the world graduate and join our international alumni community, with degrees conferred viritually.

In a year unlike any other, we are marking the conferral of degrees virtually, presenting opportunities for our graduates to gather with loved ones and celebrate, no matter where they are.

Inspiring achievements

Our students inspire us as they pursue academic excellence and embrace the wider student experience at Durham, whether that be participating in sport, the arts and culture or volunteering.

During a year as unprecedented at this one, their achievements are a testament to their hard work and dedication to their years of study and growth.

Global community

Our graduating students are joining a global alumni community of 200,000-strong. Their relationship with Durham doesn’t end at graduation – it's a lifelong journey with continued support from us here at Durham, and from each other, wherever they go.

Our alumni demonstrate the value of being Durham inspired, in their achievements here and as they go out across the world. It lives on in the friendships and connections that began here and continues to endure, holding together this global community of extraordinary Durham people.

Share your celebration with us

Although we're all looking forward to celebrating together in next spring, we're asking our graduates to share their global celebrations with us on social media using the hashtags #DUCongregation, #DuGraduation and #DUinspire.

We extend a heartfelt congratulations to our graduates and wish them well in their future endeavours.

To make sure the you receive the best possible support, not matter your background, we have worked closely with the Office for Students to create a plan improve access, success and progression for underrepresented groups.
