2021/22 Student Support Fund Short-term Loan Application Form

Declaration

Please read this declaration carefully before selecting the "Yes" option from the drop-down menu (we will not process applications where "No" is selected).  Please also ensure that you have filled in the form accurately and uploaded all the necessary supporting documentation.  Failure to provide any supporting documentation requested by the Student Support Fund administrators will result in an incomplete application.  We will not process incomplete applications

1. I confirm that I have read and understood the information on the Student Support Fund Essential Information web page.

2. I understand that the Student Support Fund is a discretionary fund and that I am not guaranteed to receive an award from it.

3. I confirm that the information supplied in this application form is correct and agree that the Student Support Fund administrators may seek further evidence where necessary to substantiate my statements.  I understand that if I do not provide this information I may not receive an award from the Student Support Fund.  I understand that submitting false information or omitting relevant information on this application form will be considered a Major Offence in terms of University discipline.

4. I understand that my application will be read by the Student Support Fund administrators.  I understand that the Student Support Fund administrators will contact the Student Support Office in my College to inform them that I have made an application to the Student Support Fund and to request relevant background information.  I understand that the Student Support Fund administrators may contact other offices within the University to inform them that I have made an application to the Student Support Fund and/or to request relevant background information.  I understand that any correspondence pertaining to this application may be shared with the Student Support Office in my College and with other offices within the University.

5. I understand that the Student Support Fund administrators will examine my bank statements and may ask me for information about them, particularly in relation to any large, unusual, or otherwise noteworthy, transactions. 

6. I understand that I may be required to discuss my future budget with one of the Student Support Fund administrators before receiving any award from the Student Support Fund.  I understand that, if my bank statements indicate that I am in need of immediate budgeting advice, my application to the Student Support Fund may not be assessed until I have met with one of the Student Support Fund administrators. 

7. I understand that any applicable portion of any award I receive from the Student Support Fund may be paid to a third party, including the University if I am in debt to the University.  I give my permission for any applicable portion of any award I receive from the Student Support Fund to be paid to any third party deemed appropriate by the Student Support Fund administrators.

8. I understand that the data I provide by completing and submitting this form will be stored and used in line with the University Data Protection Privacy Notice.

9. I confirm that I am in real financial need which cannot reasonably be reduced to a manageable level by my own actions and that without financial support I will not be able to continue my course.

Please provide brief details about your disability/disabilities.

If you have had a Needs Assessment carried out by DUAC you can give us consent to access it.  We will use the information in your Needs Assessment to help us decide whether you have any extra costs which can be met by the Student Support Fund.

About your Guaranteed Income
You must provide supporting documentation confirming how much your guaranteed income will be and when you will receive it (if possible).
Your Short-term Loan: Purpose and Repayment

Please note that we will not necessarily award you a Short-term Loan of this amount.  We will determine the amount of your Short-term Loan with reference to the Student Support Fund minimum expenditure figures.

Please note that if, when we look at your bank statements, we think that you have longer-term financial issues that won't be helped by a Short-term Loan will will not award you a Short-term Loan.  We we will ask you to complete a full application form to see if you need a Grant from the Student Support Fund.

Please give as much information as you can e.g. "Rent due 1st March: £350.  Food and household shopping for four weeks: £120" etc.

Please note that we will not allow you to borrow against non-delayed future income.  For example, we will not allow you to borrow against next term's Maintenance Loan if you have spent all of this term's Maintenance Loan.  We will ask you to complete a full application for financial support to see if you need a Grant from the Student Support Fund.

Supporting Documentation

Please e-mail transaction reports/bank statements from all your bank accounts including savings accounts and ISAs to student.supportfund@durham.ac.uk.

Transaction reports/bank statements must go back six months from the date on which you submit your 2021/22 Short-term Loan Application Form.  For example, if you submit your 2021/22 Student Support Fund Short-term Loan Application Form on the 1st May 2022, your transaction reports/bank statements must cover the period 1st November 2021 - 1st May 2022.

Transaction reports/bank statements must be collated into one pdf file and must be in date order.  We will not accept Excel spreadsheet downloads.
