Financial Support

Please see the University's Covid-19 FAQs for up-to-date information about student financial support.

This information is for home and EU undergraduates and PGCE students.

The majority of home undergraduate and PGCE students pay for their tuition fees, accommodation, other living and course costs by taking out a Tuition Fee Loan and a Maintenance Loan from the government. Students who have disabilities, who have children and/or who come from a low income background may be able to access extra funding from the government and/or from the University.

There are other forms of income available to students: some are lucky enough to be supported by their family, many use their interest-free student overdraft as income and some work part-time.

Click on the links to the left to find out about the financial support available to students at Durham University. Eligibility for some of the financial support depends on your fee status and on other eligibility criteria.

EU students: please note that you will not be eligible for a Maintenance Loan or any extra funding from the UK government unless you can prove that you come under one of the categories listed here.
