Smart Grid Laboratory
The Durham University Smart Grid Laboratory hosts a low-voltage network and a wide range of low carbon technologies. The laboratory has been designed to enable research on the solutions to resolve network constraints driven by the transition to a low carbon economy.
The Smart Grid Laboratory consists of a flexible low voltage distribution network, a Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS™) system, a PV emulation system, a wind turbine emulation system, an Electrical Energy Storage (EES), an Electric Vehicle and charging station, and an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP). The system is fully instrumented with precise measurement boards, high-speed data acquisition cards and advanced human-machine interface software.
