Sponsored cycle ride by David Rollason (History Department)

(21 October 2008)

To raise money for the acquisition of Seaton Delaval Hall.

Seaton Delaval Hall is for sale and the National Trust is seeking to raise £6.3m by 31 December 2008 to acquire it. The Hall is one of the most attractive and atmospheric 18th-century houses, with its dramatic façades and interior, fine grounds, and its spine-tingling view up the Northumberland coast and over the former industrial and mining landscape which made the North-East's past.

To have it in the National Trust's hands to the benefit of the whole north-east community - and of the whole world - would be wonderful, and we must make it happen. David Rollason will represent Durham University's History Department in cycling 175 miles from Edinburgh to Seaton Delaval along the Sustrans Coast and Castles route in the last weekend of November to raise sponsorship for the purchase.

Please sponsor this ride now and make your contribution to helping the North-East to make use of this wonderful opportunity to acquire for the public a site of global importance.
