International Women's Day 2015: Women in Science
Faculty of Science Photography Competition 2015
The competition was open to all current Durham undergraduate and postgraduate students who were asked to take photographs that exhibited creativity and artistic flare while addressing one of two independent themes of ‘Women in Science’ or ‘Early Career Researchers’. Each theme addressed an existing gap in the existing image bank and was intended to be inclusive. The Women in Science Theme directly supports the Athena SWAN principles and our celebration of International Women's Day. The Early Career Researcher Theme was intended to be more postgraduate friendly with the same potential to support. By promoting the competition through Departments/Schools contributing to the Natural Sciences programme and through Colleges we aimed to make all Durham students stop and think about women in science.
A montage of some of the entries is shown above and will be displayed on Monday 2nd March 2015 and Tuesday 3rd March 2015 in main entrance to the Palatine Centre along with descriptions and will go on permanent display in the Faculty Offices. The winners are displayed below and were selected with no knowledge of who the entrants were to ensure that there was no biased.
