Information for New Students
This information is for students who have places to start Phase I Medicine at Durham University's Queen's Campus in October 2013.
Congratulations on gaining your place. We look forward to welcoming you in September, in the meantime there are a few things to help you prepare for your start with us.
All students need to enrol with Durham University. It is essential that you do this as soon as possible otherwise you will not be able to access the full IT facilities when you arrive. The Student Enrolment System opens eight weeks before the start of your programme. You will receive two emails (24 hours apart - please check the account you supplied at the point of application) with your username and password for accessing University IT. The emails are sent out after your acceptance of your place at Durham has been processed. You will use these throughout your studies, but the first thing you should do is complete your online enrolment. This secure area is accessed by logging into Durham University Online (DUO), the University's networked learning environment. You can access DUO via https://duo.dur.ac.uk - click on the "Banner Self Service" link once you have logged in successfully. You complete online enrolment by confirming or updating your personal details and agreeing to the University's rules and regulations.
Completing Enrolment will give you access to your personal @durham.ac.uk email address and access to view information from your department and college in DUO.
If you enrol early enough, you will also have the opportunity to upload a photograph for your campus card (student ID card) which means you won't have to queue for a card upon arrival.
Once you have enrolled, you will have access to the Medicine Fresher's duo site. There's lots of information available there, either now, or over the next few weeks, including the Phase I Handbook, a Study Skills Handbook, reading lists and much more.
The School have already contacted you regarding Immunisations and Disclosure prior to arrival. Please ensure that you fulfil all requested of you by the August 23rd deadline.
Reminders here on why these are required:
New student induction: Monday 30th September - Friday 4th October 2013. You must bring a passport photograph with you to induction on Monday if you have not already uploaded one. The Induction Outline gives you information on activities in the School. More details about induction will be available following online registration on the freshers duo site. Final immunisation check timetable details will be added shortly before induction begins.
Teaching begins on Monday 7th October 2013.
- Michealmas Term: 7th October 2013 - 13th December 2013
- Epiphany Term: 13th January 2014 - 21st March 2014
- Easter Term: 21st April 2014 - 27th June 2014
You are expected to be available throughout the terms as compulsory taught sessions may be scheduled at any time during these periods.
