+Do I have to be good at sport to apply for the BA Sport, Exercise & Physical Activity course?

The sporting facilities at Durham University are excellent, and are well used by 92% of all the students who study here. However, while our degree course is obviously related to sport, exercise and health, it is first and foremost an academic programme of study. Applicants do not have to present any particular sporting ability to a given level. Our degree course is more concerned with students’ academic abilities than their sporting achievements. Of course, if you have attained any sporting achievements - or are participating in sport at a high level, please do mention this in your personal statement. It is good for us to form a holistic impression of our applicants, and any successes or achievements (sporting or otherwise) are always good to read about. Ultimately, your commitment to the study of sport is what we are looking for, rather than your participation record.
