Understanding Rape in West Yorkshire

A research project of the School of Applied Social Sciences.

Background

West Yorkshire Rape Strategic Group commissioned research in order to understand rape as fully as possible as it is experienced throughout West Yorkshire.

Aims

  • To develop an up to date Problem Profile of rape across West Yorkshire
  • To identify gaps in service provision

Methods

We are using a multi-methodological approach, gathering qualitative and quantitative data to address the research questions. This includes: semi- structured interviews with service providers and policy makers, analysis of police data, GIS mapping of services and reported incidents, analysis of voluntary sector data.

Findings

The findings will be contained in a report to West Yorkshire Rape Strategic Group in April 2010.
