The Russkiy Mir Centre

Centre Resources

Open Access Centre

The Russkiy Mir Centre is open as a study space during term time (Mon, Tue, Thurs and Fri 10am-2pm). The room offers 8-10 places for study, 6 PCs, and printing facilities. The RM’s library and media resources are available for student use only within the centre.

Kirill Sokolov’s Paintings

The RM Centre exhibits a fine collection of paintings by Kirill Sokolov (1930-2004), a celebrated Russian painter, sculptor, print-maker and stage designer. A collection of 8 landscape and abstract works created by Sokolov throughout the 1990s was kindly provided to the Centre by his widow, Dr Avryl Pyman. Sokolov’s artwork, created in the North-East England after his emigration from the USSR in 1974, innovatively explores traditional Russian scenes of rural life with non-trivial materials and techniques.

Open Book Case

The RM Centre is also home to an OpenBookCase space which offers a growing collection of books in Russian or about Russia available for borrowing. The centre is looking for expanding its collection of OpenCase books and welcomes any contributions – fiction or non-fiction in Russian, materials for learning Russian, English-language resources on any aspect of Russian culture, history or society, books in other Slavic languages.
