Respect: creating a place where we can all flourish

Access and Participation

At Durham, we are committed to ensuring that entry to university is based on merit and academic potential, and not social background, ethnicity, gender or other factors. We understand that Durham is a globally prominent, highly selecting institution, with demanding degree programmes. We recognise that many of Durham’s indicators of success can also be barriers to students traditionally under-represented in higher education.

To this end, the Access & Engagement team is responsible for delivering a number of widening access initiatives and programmes including:

At Durham, we also work closely with a range of partners in pursuit of the principles of fair access and participation. We’re proud to be part of a number of collaborations involving higher education institutions, schools, colleges, charities, trusts and other organisations.
