Breath as an Anchor - Mindfulness Drop-In Session
These drop-in sessions are part of the event programme for Palace Green Library’s exhibition Catch Your Breath. They will take place every other Wednesday commencing 9 January 2019.
No booking is required.
If you enjoy our drop-in sessions and wish to progress your Mindfulness learning, then sign up to our Mindfulness Course. This five session course runs alternate Wednesdays, 9am – 10am, from 16 January 2019.
Whilst our body is reliably in the present, the mind can be off in memories of the past or fantasies of the future. By bringing awareness to our breath and using it as an anchor during times of stress and anxiety, we can begin to retrain ourselves to become less caught up in the habit of following our thoughts and emotions. We can learn to find an awareness of the present and develop a less autopilot state of mind to engage fully with what is happening in our lives.
The aim of Mindfulness is to increase our awareness so that we can be proactive to situations and respond with choice rather than be reactive. We can do this by bringing our attention back to the body through the breath, anchoring us to the present.
