Scaling the Heights

21st September 2018, 10:00 to 21st December 2018, 17:00, Oriental Museum, Elvet Hill, DH1 3TH

An exhibition by artists Stephen, Margaret and Kate Livingstone, working with Dr. Abbie Garrington of Durham University, to recreate heroic Himalayan mountain climbs in miniature using vintage Action Men figures.

Based on accounts of pioneering expeditions, the artists are re-staging famous summit climbs using a pair of vintage Action Men figures who scale the heights of prestigious mountaineering libraries. The resulting handmade books will be exhibited alongside images and objects from the collections of the Mountain Heritage Trust.

Project funded by Durham University, Arts Council England and Montane.
