Everyone's History: 20 years of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Treasure Act

8th November 2017, 10:00 to 28th May 2018, 17:00, Museum of Archaeology, Palace Green Library

This exhibition celebrates 20 years of the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Treasure Act and also the archaeology that is discovered everyday by the public.

20 years ago a unique programme began, its aim was to record archaeological artefacts found by the general public. Today over a million objects have been recorded and many important objects and sites discovered.

This exhibition features objects that have been found by the public. It also highlights some of the objects that have been acquired through the Treasure Act, including for the first time part of a Bronze Age hoard found in County Durham.

Entry is free. The gallery is open Monday, 12 – 5pm and Tuesday to Sunday, 10am – 5pm
