"To the Life" Art Exhibition

8th May 2017, 09:00 to 9th June 2017, 18:00, Trevelyan College, Durham

Local artist Allan Archibald exhibits this collection of paintings in Trevelyan College.

Living in a rural area, I had always considered myself a painter of landscape. Although I enjoy working plein-air, and responding to the natural world, I did not feel challenged and felt that my drawing had become sloppy and inaccurate. I began to attend a number of Life drawing groups in the area hoping that this would provide a useful corrective. I quickly discovered that I was much more interested in an expressive response to the model than in academic representation. The exhibition at Trevelyan is of twenty or so works which grew from this. Most were done in the studio, some are re-workings of what I had drawn in Life Classes, one or two are old pieces which fit into this theme but which have never seen the light of day before.
