We’re a World Top 100 university

(19 June 2019)

Durham has again been ranked in the World Top 100 universities

Durham University has again been ranked as a World Top 100 university – putting us in the top eight per cent of universities worldwide in a new league table.

The QS World University Rankings 2020 place Durham 78th globally out of more than 1,000 higher education institutions and 24th in Europe.

This recognises the outstanding quality of our research, education and overall student experience.

Outstanding graduates

More than 45,000 of the world’s leading employers have also ranked us 44th globally, and ninth nationally, for the quality of our outstanding graduates, according to the QS rankings.

The league table also recognises the impact and quality of our research, where we’re 63rd globally and third in the UK, as well as our work to attract increasing numbers of leading researchers from around the world to Durham.

The QS World University Rankings 2020 is just the latest league table success we are celebrating.

Record performance

A record 18 of our subjects are ranked in the World Top 100 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019, including ten in the World Top 50. Three of our subjects are in the World Top Ten - Theology and Religion (fifth), Archaeology (sixth) and Geography (ninth).

Nationally, we’re consistently a UK Top Ten university and we’re ranked fifth in the Guardian University Guide 2020, sixth in The Complete University Guide 2020 and seventh in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

New facilities

We are proud of the talent, commitment and hard work of our staff and students and we have ambitious plans to build upon this success by investing in new facilities.

Our new Teaching and Learning Centre is due to open later this year, while building work is well underway on a new home for our Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science departments, expanded and upgraded sports facilities and new College accommodation.

This investment is part of our overall plan to attract the very best academic experts and students from around the globe to enhance our standing as a world leading university.
