New Vice-Provost (Research) appointed
(14 February 2019)
We are pleased to announce that Professor Colin Bain has been appointed as Vice-Provost (Research).
Colin is currently the Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Soft Matter and Functional Interfaces (SOFI), having previously held the positions of Director (Science) at the Institute of Advanced Study and Dean and Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research).
His role will be to develop and oversee the implementation of the University’s research strategy.
He will provide dynamic intellectual leadership and inspire continuous improvement in the quality and impact of the University’s research outputs, as well as growing the University’s research income.
Colin will take up his new role in August 2019, following the decision of current Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Claire Warwick to step down at the end of her current term of office to concentrate on her academic career.
He said: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to lead the implementation of the University’s Research and Engagement Strategy.
“I look forward to helping our outstanding researchers across all disciplines to meet the University vision of creating world-leading and world-changing research.”
Colin will be supported by a part-time Deputy and recruitment to this position will begin shortly.
