Thinking East Asia

A research project of the Department of History.

Background

The University of Durham is home to a large number of academics and postgraduate students who research East Asia from many differing perspectives. The Thinking East Asia research cluster is designed to bring these researchers together, to create a multidisciplinary dialogue about diverse range of topics, places, and periods. Although this research cluster is hosted by the History Department, with key affiliates in the School of Modern Languages & Cultures, we welcome participants from any discipline to join our discussions.

The current research interests of our affiliates include, but are not limited to, intellectual history, rumours and public opinion, the history of science, medicine and technology, environmental and ecological history, the body and senses, and the history of photography.
