Part-time Teacher [Greek] in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures

Contact Dr Kostas Boyiopoulos

I am a Teaching Assistant in the Department of English Studies and a p/t Teacher in the School of Modern Languages & Cultures. My work is in 19thC-20thC literature and culture. I am chiefly interested in Decadence and Aestheticism, the Fin-de-siècle, comparative literature, translation, and post-Romantic poetics. At Durham I have taught on a number of English Literature modules, including Classical & Biblical background, Romanticism, Victorian, and Modern literature. In the School of Modern Languages I teach Specialised Translation for the MA in Translation Studies.

I am the author of The Decadent Image: The Poetry of Wilde, Symons, and Dowson (Edinburgh University Press, 2015); part of the research for this project was funded in 2013 by the Friends of Princeton University Library Research Grant (FPUL). I co-edited, with Mark Sandy, the essay collection Decadent Romanticism (Ashgate, 2015). I am also co-editor, with Yoonjoung Choi and Matthew Brinton Tildesley, of The Decadent Short Story: An Annotated Anthology (Edinburgh University Press, 2014). Several published and forthcoming articles and chapters are devoted to such authors as Wilde, Arthur Symons, Arthur Machen, and CP Cavafy. I was recently contracted to co-edit essay collections on marginal voices of the Modern period and on the aphorism.
