Biography

I have a relatively multi-disciplinary academic background, with qualifications in forestry (undergraduate) and Environmental Biogeochemistry (masters and PhD) in additon to research experience in both social and physical sciences.

I'm responsible for day to day management of three of the labs in Archaeology (Materials, Isotopes and DNA) and have the following additional roles:

  • Departmental COSHH supervisor
  • Departmental radiation protection supervisor
  • Departmental deputy Health and safety coordinator

Talking Science

I'm really keen to talk about science, and I've been fortunate enough to be involved with lots of great projects that aim to get scientists out of the lab and engaging with people to talk about what they do, and why. The projects have included:

  • FameLab (finalist 2006)
  • Researchers in Residence
  • The British Science Association's Perspectives Scheme
  • The Cheltenham Science Festival
  • The Manchester Science Festival
  • Schools visits across the North East of England
