Dr Nicky Garland, BA MA, PhD
(email at email@example.com)
I am a Post Doctoral Research Associate on the Leverhulme funded ‘Monumentality and Landscape: Linear Earthworks in Britain’ project. My research focuses on the landscapes of Iron Age and Roman north-western Europe, specifically understanding the origins, development of role of oppida. My research uses a multi-scale analysis of these complex settlements to better understand their function, social structure and transformation across the Iron Age-Roman transition. For a list of my current publications please see my ResearchGate profile.
I am an early career researcher, having completed my PhD in 2017 at the Institute of Archaeology UCL on Territorial Oppida in Iron Age and Roman Britain. Since then I have worked on numerous research projects including the National Lottery Heritage Funded project ‘Hadrian’s Wall Community Archaeology (WallCAP)’, at Newcastle University, the AHRC funded ‘Crisis or continuity: Hoarding in Iron Age and Roman Britain’ project at the University of Leicester and the AHRC/English Heritage funded 'Exeter: A Place in Time' project, with Cotswold Archaeology. Prior to this I spent twelve years working in developer-funded archaeology in numerous roles including leading fieldwork projects, consultancy and, most recently, as a publications and post-excavation officer.
