Rapid detection of earthquake-triggered landslides using satellite radar
Increased global coverage of satellite radar means that it is becoming viable as a technique for rapidly identifying changes in ground surface following a large earthquake. The aim of my research is to develop satellite radar methods for use in detection of earthquake-triggered landslides. An algorithm will be developed to bring together multiple synthetic aperture radar (SAR) techniques for use in rapidly mapping earthquake-triggered landslides for emergency response. This algorithm will then be used to produce an inventory of landsliding in Nepal from 2014-2018 for analysis.
This project is one of four PhD projects, which carry out research in different disciplines on earthquake-induced landslide hazard in Nepal. These make up the 2016 intake of the Action on Natural Disasters doctoral training programme, based in the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience at Durham University.
