Doug Scott

Honorary Entrepreneurial Fellow in the Business School


Doug grew up in a small family business environment and has worked in enterprise support for over 30 years. He graduated with a BA in Economics from St Cuthbert’s Society in the University of Durham in 1979 and worked in IT, business information and publishing before joining TEDCO in 1988. In 1997, he became Chief Executive and left in 2013 to start What You See is All There Is, which provides consultancy, interim management and non-executive director services, primarily in not-for-profit businesses and specialising in enterprise.

During his time at TEDCO, he developed award-winning services in business incubation, enterprise development and support and in financial inclusion and led the National Enterprise Network, as Chairman, between 2010 and 2012. In 2010, he was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion, Lifetime Achievement Award.

His particular interests are: new business creation; enterprise theory and practice; enterprise policy and programming; and, governance in not-for-profit businesses and small organisations. He is also interested in the psychology of business and decision-making.
