Biography

Professor Carlos M. P. Sousa is Director of the International Business Group and Professor of International Marketing at Durham University Business School. He is also the Research Coordinator in the Department of Marketing. Prior to joining Durham, he was Lecturer in Marketing at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School at University College Dublin (Ireland).

He has a Bachelor degree in Accounting and Management from Coimbra Business School-ISCAC (Portugal), Master degree in International Business from University Santiago de Compostela (Spain), and a MComm. and PhD from University College Dublin (Ireland).

He has published in Journal of International Marketing, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of World Business, International Marketing Review, Management International Review, International Business Review, European Journal of Marketing, International Journal of Management Reviews, International Small Business Journal, and Journal of Small Business Management, among others.

Professor Sousa is an Associate Editor of International Marketing Review and is on the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of International Marketing and Industrial Marketing Management. In 2006 he won the ADMES/MARKTEST scientific excellence award for the best paper in 2006. In 2012 his paper published in European Journal of Marketing has been chosen as a Highly Commended Award Winner at the Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2012. He has been a visiting professor at universities in Australia, Brazil, Chile, Italy, and Spain.

Research specialties

His research interests are in the area of international marketing strategy, determinants of company performance, the measurement and impact of psychic distance and cultural distance on international activities, cultural influences on international marketing strategies, and services marketing.

Potential areas of supervision

He welcomes PhD students in any of his research areas.
