Ethics and Governance Toolkit

The University's Ethics Policy outlines the University's expectations regarding ethical review, and the Research Integrity Policy and Code of Good Practice provides additional guidance on the responsibilities of researchers in relation to ethics and governance. All staff and students are expected to adhere to these policies.

In line with these policies, all research and other external work must recieve appropriate consideration, review and (if necessary) approval before starting. The purpose of this toolkit is threefold:

  • to make the University's requirements around ethics and governance clear
  • to assist staff and students in completing ethical review forms
  • to provide a repository of useful resources which will assist in the effective set-up and running of projects.

Ethical Considerations

The governance section of the toolkit provides information about additional legal and regulatory requirements that need to be taken into account, including licences and permissions that may be required before starting work. Where projects require ethical approval, a key part of the process will be ensuring that related governance considerations have been appropriately addressed.
