MRC Confidence in Concept

The MRC Confidence in Concept (CiC) is a block grant that can be used flexibly by a university to support a number of preliminary-stage translational projects.

The core purpose of the funding is to:

  • Ensure that fundamental science is translated into new therapies, diagnostics and medical devices.
  • Accelerate the transition from discovery science to the early stages of development by providing responsive and flexible funding to support preliminary translational work.
  • Support preliminary-stage translational projects.
  • Provide sufficient preliminary data to establish the viability of an approach before seeking more substantial funding
