Project Thailand

Student Involvement

The Chulalongkorn Learning Centre

A group of four Durham students travelled to the Nan Province in July 2008 and spent six weeks living and engaging in voluntary community support and development activities in both Nan and Saithong.

Weekdays were spent in the village, engaging in a variety of activities in both the school and community settings. At weekends the students were located in Nan where they engaged with the Civil Society, other organisations, and with the Chulalongkorn Learning Centre.

Their fund-raising was for the provision of a much needed water filtration system for Saithong village. Their journals and photographs tell their own story.

Following in their footsteps, Team Thailand 2009 provided a water filtration system for the village of Nam Ngao and sufficient funding to ensure the sustainability of this.

Team Thailand 2010 returns to Nan and both villages to pursue continuation activities, to engage in teaching in the schools and to explore the theme of 'knowledge in the community' and the sharing of knowledge between cultures.

Team Thailand 2011 returns to Nan town and villages of Saithong and Nam Ngao, continuing the work done in previous years whilst adding new developments of their own.
