Staff-Student Consultative Committee (Postgraduate)
Chairman: Professor Ian Smail
The Board of Studies has a Postgraduate Staff–Student Consultative Committee (PGSSCC) to provide an effective means of communication between staff and students. The Committee meets once per term. It has student representatives from each research section and if you have issues you wish to raise, you should contact your representatives.
The Staff–Student Consultative Committee reports to the Board of Studies, the body directly responsible for running the Department, and plays an active role in promoting high-quality teaching in the Department. An important function of the Staff–Student Consultative Committee is to elect the student representatives to the Board of Studies and the Postgraduate Studies Committee. In addition, one student from the Faculty of Science will be elected to represent students at meetings of the Faculty's Education Committee (postgraduate).
If you have concerns about your course which are not covered by these meetings, contact can be made directly with the Staff–Student Consultative Committee (PG) Chairman who is the Director of Postgraduate Studies.
Communication between the SSCC and the student body
Prior to each meeting, the student representatives solicit feedback from the students in their section. This ensures that all students have opportunities to provide feedback on all elements of their course. The student representatives collate the replies and report them at the meeting. The minutes of the SSCC meetings are made publicly available on the departmental web site. These minutes include details of action taken in response to student feedback.
