Department of Philosophy

Ben Kirk

“I am a recent graduate of Philosophy and Psychology, with my dissertation suitably examining the philosophy of mind debate surrounding the content of our mental states, specifically arguing for a holistic mental externalism. I benefitted greatly from the numerous and diverse resources offered by the philosophy department, be they sentient or otherwise. I chose my course in the hope that my personal philosophy – one of closer integration between philosophy and psychology – would be reinforced whilst also being challenged, and I was surely not disappointed. I leave Durham confident that studying philosophy here has provided me with the tools to more comfortably navigate all aspects of my life.”
