Leadership Programmes

The table below shows the full range of leadership development programmes available for those with responsibility for others e.g. Team Leaders, Supervisors, Managers, Department Managers, Senior Leaders. Please note not all programmes are able to be delivered in the academic year 2020/21.

Team Leader Essentials

This programme will be delivered by the HR-OD team and has been designed to help people who are aspiring to be a team leader or who are new to a team leader role to develop the relevant skills and knowledge. A blended learning model will be used with a mixture of live online sessions and self-directed online learning and it is externally accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management. Manager Essentials

This programme will be delivered by the HR-OD team and aims to give practising Managers the foundation for their formal development in this role, the programme will be delivered using a blended learning model with a combination of taught online sessions and self-directed learning. Manager Essentials (Pathway Option)

This programme provides an opportunity for staff to attend leadership workshops on the Open Course Training Programme to improve their management skills and gain accreditation from the Institute of Leadership and Management. For further information on the options available click here.

Level 3 Team Leader / Supervisor Apprenticeship

This qualification is delivered by external providers and is designed for supervisory or first-line managers. The Level 3 Team Leader/ Supervisor Apprenticeship offers practical knowledge and skills from team-leading through to project and resource management to give the tools needed to start a management journey. Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship

This two year qualification programme is delivered by external providers and is designed for supervisors or managers looking to move to a more senior management role. This apprenticeship delivers a broad range of practical management knowledge and skills to give the tools needed to develop further on a management journey. Leadership Essentials

This programme aims to give practising Senior Managers the foundation for their formal development in this role by developing leadership skills and assisting participants in gaining the knowledge required at this level. For further information click here.

Aurora

Aurora is Advance HE's leadership development initiative for women. It is run as a unique partnership bringing together leadership experts and higher education institutions to take positive action to address the under-representation of women in leadership positions in the sector. Aspiring Strategic Leaders

The Aspiring Strategic Leaders programme is aimed at Grade 8/9 colleagues who wish to develop strategic leadership skills and awareness of the HE sector both nationally and internationally. This programme will commence in May, further details are provided here.

Level 7 Senior Leader Apprenticeship

This two year qualification programme is delivered by external providers and has been designed for any individual moving into a senior or strategic management role or a strategic leader with senior management responsibility, which may include responsibilities for setting strategy, direction and vision, for providing a clear sense of purpose and driving strategic intent. Durham University Leadership Attributes Programme

A new initiative for 2021 is a series of 5 separate webinars – one on Trust, Compassionate Leadership, Emotional Intelligence, Engagement and Enhancing productivity and Leading Change in complex times. These will be led by an expert in the field and will run for 45 minutes plus 15 minutes of questions. This series will run every other month starting in January and in the interim month there will be the opportunity to join a peer “Listening Cafe” which will give the opportunity to those who wish to further explore the themes discussed in the webinar and sharing challenge that leaders may be facing implementing it in practice. Senior Leaders Induction Programme

The Senior Leaders Induction Programme is aimed at all new senior leaders of departments or those who will have a strategic leadership role. The programme consists of a Strategic Induction, Operational Modules and Individual Development. For further information click here.
