European Driving Licence (ECDL)

To support the Digital Strategy and encourage the development of digital skills HR-OD is partnering with New College Durham to offer the opportunity to complete the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) qualification at level 1 or level 2. New College Durham is offering this as part of a free digital training offer to all those who are employed and live in the North East as part of a 'Durham Digital' initiative.

ECDL is a worldwide recognised computer literacy certification programme and can be completed at level 1 or level 2. The qualifications will be delivered via blended learning with on-line tuition via Microsoft Teams by professionally trained tutors supported by independent learning. Further details are below:

ECDL Flexi (Level 1)

This level 1 qualification consists of the following 3 units:

  • Using Internet and Email
  • Word Processing Software
  • Spreadsheet Software.

This programme will be delivered weekly on a Monday afternoon from Monday 12th April for 16 weeks with 1 ½ hours of tutor input from 9:30 - 11:00am (delivered via Microsoft Teams) followed by 1 ½ hours of independent learning to be completed flexibly in accordance with your commitments.

ECDL Extra (Level 2)

This level 2 qualification consists of the following 4 units:

  • Improving Productivity using IT
  • Word Processing Software
  • Presentation Software
  • Spreadsheet Software.

This programme will be delivered weekly on a Tuesday afternoon from Tuesday 13th April for 16 weeks with 1 ½ hours of tutor input from 14:00 - 15:30 (delivered via Microsoft Teams) followed by 1 ½ hours of independent learning to be completed flexibly in accordance with your commitments.

Enrolment process with New College Durham

To start the enrolment process please complete the Enrolment Request Form and a member of the funding team from New College Durham will contact you. When completing the Enrolment Request form please write (Durham University staff) after your Last Name.

The funding team will ask you to provide evidence of your eligibility to access this training that proves you are employed e.g. a copy of your latest pay slip, have a legal right to work in the UK e.g. your passport or birth certificate and your address e.g. a driving licence or a utility bill.
