Personal Development Workbooks - Frequently Asked Questions

This is an optional tool to assist Professional Services Staff with their personal development. It will enable you to reflect on your current skills and areas for improvement and assist with identifying future training opportunities.

It is advisable to start with the workbook linked to your current grade to identify your strengths and areas for improvement within your current role. Once you have completed this workbook you can complete a workbook at a higher grade or from another job family as all staff have access to all workbooks.

If colleagues decide to share workbooks, then Line managers should agree with their individual team members how often they will review the workbooks. Good practice would be to review the workbook approximately every 3 months to check progress with targets.

Work submitted to the workspace will be viewed by a representative from HR-OD to gather information on training themes and monitor the number of individuals participating. Beyond this work will not be shared with others without explicit permission. Individuals can choose to collaborate with line managers and mentors or coaches.

The workbooks are a tool to help identify your strengths and areas for development and highlight appropriate training and development opportunities.  The action plan that you devise should complement the ADR and support the conversations. The reflections and evidence you add to you workbooks could be exported into the ADR document or referenced as your "virtual portfolio."
