New Head of University College appointed

(16 January 2020)

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Wendy Powers as our new Head of University College.

Wendy has over 30 years’ experience in Higher Education and is currently Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Alverno College, Milwaukee in the USA, where she has responsibility for the wider student experience.

She said: “I’m delighted and humbled to join the University College community as its next leader and I am committed to honouring the College’s remarkable history as we build the future together.”

As Head of College, Wendy will provide leadership and direction to members of the College community and will be responsible for its student development programme and wellbeing agenda.

Wendy’s secondary role will be Associate Vice Provost (Education) where she will use her considerable skills and experience towards the University’s goal of widening access and participation, an area she is passionate about.

She said: “It is by engaging with and learning from those whose voices are marginalised that we will create a more peaceful and just world. The broader and more inclusive our communities, the richer our lives will be.”

Wendy will take up her new role in June 2020 and we look forward to welcoming her to Durham.
