New Professor joins Durham Classics Team

Professor Edward Harris, a distinguished international scholar, takes up Professorship in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at Durham University in September.

Professor Harris is currently at Brooklyn College, City University New York, where he has been since 1983 as Assistant and Associate Professor and has held a full professorship since 1993.

He has a strong research profile specializing, over the past 20 years, in Greek History of the Archaic and Classical periods, and in more recent years focusing on legal history and social and economic history.

Professor Harris has an extensive list of published articles and review articles and his fifth book A Democracy Ruled by Law: Essays on Law, Society and Politics in Classical Athens is due for publication.

Edward M. Harris graduated from Stanford University in 1974 with a BA in Classics, also from Oxford University in 1976 and an MA and PhD in Classical Philology from Harvard University.
