Meet our new student support and development champion

(26 March 2019)

We’re pleased to announce that Jeremy Cook OBE has been appointed as our new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Colleges and Student Experience).

Who is Jeremy Cook OBE?

Jeremy is currently the Deputy Director of the British Army’s Collective Training Transformation Programme and will join us at Durham in September 2019.

He has a proven record of success in a variety of strategic leadership roles. Married to Kate, Jeremy has two daughters and is a keen cyclist and dinghy sailor.

He also has a passion for student theatre and so he should enjoy the fantastic range of productions on offer from Durham Student Theatre (DST).

What will he be doing?

He will be responsible for promoting the wider student experience at Durham, including the overall strategic direction of the Colleges and Student Experience Division (incorporating the Student Support and Wellbeing Directorate and Experience Durham).

Jeremy will champion the student support and development agenda at the highest levels of the University.

His goal will be to ensure that the wider student experience at Durham is as good as any at the very best universities worldwide.

What does he have to say?

Jeremy says: “I’m honoured and delighted to have been appointed to this role at Durham University.

“I’m looking forward to leading a team of highly motivated and talented people to continue the task of developing and delivering a world-class wider student experience and support for our students.”

Further information

  • Jeremy replaces Owen Adams OBE who has decided to accept a new role at a school in Berkshire in order to be closer to his family.
  • Professor Martyn Evans will act as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Colleges and Student Experience) on an interim basis until Jeremy takes up his position.
