Energy expert to take up key European role

(21 February 2019)

Dr Douglas Halliday

We’re delighted that Dr Douglas Halliday, Associate Professor in our Physics Department and co-Director of the Durham Energy Institute, has been appointed to chair the European Universities Association’s Energy and Environment Platform (EUA-EPUE).

What is the European Universities Association?

The EUA represents more than 800 universities and national rectors’ conferences in 48 European countries. It has a crucial influence on EU higher education, research, and innovation policy. It also works to enable the participation of European universities in energy- and environment-related EU programmes and to achieve a sustainable energy future for Europe.

We wish Douglas and his colleagues all the best as they continue to promote the significant role of European universities in addressing energy- and environment-related global challenges.

EUA Energy and Environment conference

In September 2019, Durham Energy Institute will host the EUA Energy and Environment “clustering event”, bringing together leaders from European Universities at Durham University to discuss topics such as energy transition, education, and climate. For more information, please email Lynn Gibson via
