Students jazz it up to support local community groups
(25 November 2004)
Fancy a laid back evening of relaxing Jazz amid all the hustle and bustle of Christmas? Can you help to brighten Christmas for less fortunate children in Eastern Europe?
Then why not ‘Jazz it up this Christmas’ with Durham University Student Community Action and support their efforts with the Annual Shoebox Appeal?
SCA has over 800 active volunteers and the concert will help support their work throughout the local community. Volunteers work with people of all ages, including infants at a crèche, taking vulnerable children on activity holidays, and helping elderly people with gardening.
‘Jazz it up this Christmas’ will be a great way for the whole local community to get into the festive sprit, whilst helping SCA continue its good work within the community. The concert will take place in Durham Town Hall on Friday 10 December at 8pm, tickets cost £4.
The SCA is also once again supporting the Annual Shoebox Appeal for Rotary International. There are lots of shoe boxes to be filled which will then be collected and sent aground Eastern Europe.
Last year the appeal was a great success and the SCA are hoping to do even better this year. Students and staff across the University are being asked to fill boxes or to donate items/money so that boxes can be made up in the SCA office.
The boxes and donations need to be returned to the SCA Office, in the Durham Students’ Union building, Dunlem House, Elvet Riverside, Durham City.
