Top designers and celebrities support charity fashion show

(29 October 2004)

Big name designers and showbiz celebrities are supporting the Durham University Fashion Show 2004 which promises to be a glittering charity fund-raising occasion.

This year’s three-night event at Durham’s Gala Theatre (8th-10th November) will see some of the country’s top designers showing collections being modelled by 40 of the University’s finest students.

Over £4,000 has already been raised from sponsors and the organising committee is hoping to raise even more for the Elton John Aids Foundation.

Elton John is personally supporting the event with a signed letter and has donated a number of items of memorabilia including a signed CD.

The DU Fashion Show 2004 will consist of a series of walks, each one by a different designer over the three nights, ending with the VIP Gala Night (10th November).

Among the top designer names on show will be Joseph, Thomas Pink, Oliver London, Lucy Welsh with French Connection and Persona. John Lewis are also providing many of their in store collections for the show. They will be joined by a host of other big names as well as Durham student designers Lucinda Nunn and Anna Hall.

Storm model management will also have talent scouts at the show on the look out for new models for their books.

Celebrity supporters include Lord and Lady Attenborough, Dame Judi Dench and artist Jack Vettriano who has donated a silk screen print. Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith have both donated dresses for the charity auction on the Gala Night.

With a dazzling array of other designer items and star prizes up for auction, the organisers are hoping that the new-look show with a great emphasis on spectacle and dance will be a winning formula.

Other sponsors of the event are PricewaterhouseCoopers, Unilever, Ultimate Leisure plc and Klute Nightclub.

The soft rock band Ark, led by Durham student Hugh Faith, will provide the music at the gala night party where guests will mingle with models, designers and sponsors.

Tickets for the event, which starts at 7.30 p.m. on the 8th and 9th November, are £10 and are available from The Gala Theatre Box Office 0191 332 4041. Tickets for the Gala Night are £10 or £20 with the evening starting at 7.00 p.m.
