Durham subjects ranked in World Top 50

Durham University’s research and teaching has been ranked among the world’s best in the latest global subject rankings.
The 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject place Law at Durham 42nd globally, up from 51st.
Social Sciences also makes the World Top 50 having climbed from 51st to 45th. Geography, Politics and International Studies* and Sociology are among the subjects classed as Social Sciences by the THE.
Education remains in the World Top 100 having retained 51st place in the rankings.
Hundreds of universities across the world are ranked by the THE who look at core areas including teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.
World leading university
Durham is one of the world’s leading universities as shown by its World Top 100 position in the QS World University Rankings 2019, where it is ranked 74th. In national league tables Durham is consistently ranked as one of the Top 10 universities in the UK.
Earlier this year Durham recorded its highest ever number of subjects in the QS World University Subject Rankings 2018 with nine in the World Top 50 and a further seven in the World Top 100.
