UK Festival: Best New Technology Award

(2 December 2014)

Fiona Measham, Professor of Criminology and co-Director of The Loop (drug and alcohol CIC) won the 2014 11th annual UK Festival Awards ‘best new technology’ award, with Parklife festival and The Loop, for groundbreaking drug testing on site at Parklife in Manchester this summer. This involved forensic testing of any samples of concern using a Bruker Alpha FT-IR spectrometer attached to the TicTac database. Medical services said that Fiona’s on site testing and the subsequent tailoring of advice by medical and welfare services to users helped to reduce drug-related problems and may even have saved lives.
