New Chief Information Officer appointed

(19 December 2018)

John Hemingway

We are pleased to announce the appointment of John Hemingway as our new Chief Information Officer, and he will take up office on 1 May 2019.

John is currently Director of ICT at the University of Hull and he will bring many years of experience and expertise to our university community. At Hull, John directed a multi-million pound project to transform the university’s IT services, including their infrastructure and wi-fi systems.

John has worked in different industries and organisations during his career, from PWC to Gulf Oil to Sheffield Hallam University.

A Chartered Engineer with a MBA and an MSc in Project Management, John is widely recognised for his work in improving IT services.

His appointment comes as we step up implementation of our University Strategy, 2017-2027, to deliver world-class research, education and wider student experience.

John said: “I am delighted to be joining this outstanding University at such an exciting time, with IT being such an integral part of the future success of the institution.”

We look forward to welcoming him to Durham and our university community.
