20th Century Music 4 | the 1980s

Sunday 11th February 2018
7:30pm Department of Music
Music School, Palace Green, Durham

Ives Ensemble

Salvatore Sciarrino - Anamorfosi
Pauline Oliveros - The Well
Luigi Nono - Hay Que Caminar “Soñando”
Laurence Crane - Trio for Ros and Peter
Pauline Oliveros - The Gentle
Mark Carroll - 18 kisses with eyes closed (WP)

This final concert in our festival brings together some of the most intimate pieces from the 1980s. Oliveros lets
us delve deep into our own listening, while Nono’s very last composition, for two violins, takes us on a journey into a gentle yet unknown future. In a rare expression of poignant yet tasteful musical humour, Sciarrino brings us the ultimate piece of water music, by creating a mash-up of Ravel and a certain popular musical tune that does not need any further introduction. We end the festival with a brand new large-scale work by Newcastle based composer Mark Carroll, who combines elements of Chopin with the poetry of Morton Feldman’s late compositions.

Tickets: £10, Students £4, Under 18s £1
